Recreation season cancelled-April 19th

Dear Midland Soccer Club (MSC) Families:

As you know, we are undergoing a period unlike any other in our history as we all attempt to deal with the onslaught of COVID-19. Our lives have forever changed, and unfortunately, at the time of this writing, we do not believe that we will be playing soccer this spring.

MSC’s Staff and Board of Directors have been monitoring these developments and we have speaking with the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) about their plans for resuming play. In compliance with national, state, and local recommendations, we are regrettably cancelling our 2020 Spring Recreational Soccer Season as well as Fusion activities during that same timeframe.  With the cancellation of soccer activities, we are taking steps to address the monetary questions our soccer families are asking.

MSC’s mission is to provide all soccer players with an opportunity to learn, develop, and compete at the highest level of desired play, in a fun and positive environment. We are a non-profit 501{c)(3) organization and the club has been providing soccer to the community since 1977.  We have grown since our founding and have maintained a responsible cash reserve to ensure the continued success in our mission. Our financial well-being relies heavily on sponsorships and volunteers to help operate the club. We’ve served thousands of families since our founding and are proud of the role we’ve played in our community.

The Covid-19 pandemic will cost MSC approximately $300,000 from our cash reserves. We remain committed to maintaining our hourly staff as a part of our commitment to them and our commitment to the operation and upkeep of our facility. Over the summer we will also continue planning for our Fall 2020 season and beyond.

MSC is offering the following options for recreational soccer families who have already paid for the Spring 2020 season:

  1. Recreational fees will be refunded 100%*, or
  2. We will issue you a voucher for the Fall season, or
  3. If you can, please consider making your fees a donation to the club. If you wish to do this, MSC will provide you with a donation receipt for your tax filing purposes.

*Please note we are determining a pro-ration amount for Fusion families based on the calendar year schedule of our travel program.

Recreational Soccer families have until the opening of Fall soccer registration on June 23rd, 2020 to make their selection. If no option is chosen, the default will be a voucher issued for the fall recreational soccer season.

When we do return to soccer, the new environment brought on by COVID-19 requires that we have plans in place to address any future COVID-19 cases at MSC before we can re-start our soccer operations. Our Staff and Board will be working to develop a policy that ensures all players, coaches, families, and our staff are protected. This plan will be developed in consultation with local health authorities.
